The sound of water lapping on the beach tickles my ears, I
am kicked back in a lounge chair the warm sun kisses my
face...the sand filters between my toes...there's really no
other place I'd rather be. The best thing about Big
Water is it's versatility...the family can take off for days
or load up on Saturday morning and just escape...between the
pool, the big beach on Lake Marion, and nature the kids wear
themselves out! We sit on the beach and soak up the
sun, grab a tube and glide around the lazy river or the kids
go play putt-putt. There's a whole world of adventure
waiting to be found and believe me, if it can be found, we
will find it! Alternatively...we can have a romantic
get-away, just the two of us hanging out by ourselves like
we were young again. Watching the sun go down,
listening to the crickets, laughing about our yesterdays and
dreaming about our tomorrow. It's all good...it just
depends on what you want to do! Kick back and relax or
get up and go! You're invited - it's up to you to come.

BIG WATER-BIG FUN
Anne Darby
There is something about building a fire on a
fresh water beach and roasting marshmallows that appeals to most of
us. Add to that scene the stars of a mild night in the South and
the sounds of children’s laughter as they play tag in the light of a
Carolina moon. What that all adds up to is a memory maker-the
beginning of a legacy. If that scene plays well in your
imagination, you will want to look into the possibilities at BIG
WATER SANTEE on the shores of Lake Marion in South Carolina.
BIG WATER is a recreational environment with a
conceptual design based on the vision of developer, Jim Thigpen. He
wanted to give the average American family a chance to vacation
throughout the year and afford all of the amenities of a lakeside
vacation without having to purchase a vacation home. Feasibility
studies show that many families would like to have a vacation
cottage, but waterfront property is very costly, and the upkeep of a
second home often keeps the owners working while they vacation. BIG
WATER is an alternative with affordable prices and exciting
recreational opportunities. The concept is attracting young
families with children, as well as numbers of grandparents who want
a safe and entertaining place to bring their grandchildren. Myron
Smith, Vice President for Operations, expresses a Southern sentiment
when he says that the idea is to create for members a “sense of
place and of community that they can refer to as ‘their place at the
lake’.”
In addition to cabins and cottages which line
the shore, BIG WATER also offers full hook up camping areas.
According to Mr. Smith, “It’s a little like adding 40 acres of
fun to your backyard!” As for activities, the resort offers a great
fish-shaped pool and a “Lazy River;” an Aquatic Playground and a
marina; a playground, fishing, golfing, a fitness center, and
biking. An added feature helps to satisfy the recreational moods of
members by networking them nationwide with other recreational places
and cruises.
If the word, “FUN,” has been missing in your
vocabulary lately, look into the family experience that is BIG WATER
and start developing those memories that will become your
legacy.
